A BILL

To amend section 3506 of title 44, United States Code, to require reductions of burdens and reviews of collections of information, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ``Paperwork Reduction Modernization Act of 2026''.

SEC. 2. FEDERAL AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES.

Section 3506 of title 44, United States Code, is amended-- (1) in subsection (c)-- (A) in paragraph (2)-- (i) in subparagraph (A)-- (I) in clause (iii), by striking ``; and'' and inserting a semicolon; and (II) by adding at the end the following: ``(v) evaluate alternatives that would reduce the burden on persons who shall provide information to or for the agency, including the use of data already obtained by the agency or another agency, electronic collection methods, and statistical sampling; and''; and (ii) in subparagraph (B), by striking ``(iv)'' and inserting ``(v)''; and (B) in paragraph (3)-- (i) in subparagraph (I), by striking ``; and'' and inserting a semicolon; and (ii) by adding at the end the following: ``(K) is the least burdensome necessary to obtain the information, as supported by the evaluation of alternatives described in paragraph (2)(A)(v); and''; and (2) by adding at the end the following: ``(j) Not later than 18 months after the date of enactment of this subsection, and every 3 years thereafter, the Director shall require each agency to review the collections of information of the agency and identify any such collections that-- ``(1) are unnecessary or no longer necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency; ``(2) can be modified to reduce burden; or ``(3) duplicate a collection of information conducted or sponsored by another agency.''. <all>
