A BILL

To amend the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 to require certain country of origin and method of production labeling for fish, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ``Let Americans Buy with Explicit Labeling Act'' or the ``LABEL Act''.

SEC. 2. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND METHOD OF PRODUCTION LABELING FOR FISH.

(a) In General.--Section 282(c) of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 (7 U.S.C. 1638a(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following: ``(3) Labeling for fish.--In the case of a covered commodity that is farm-raised fish or wild fish-- ``(A) the information required by subsection (a) shall be provided to consumers by a means described in paragraph (1) in a conspicuous location, so as to render the information likely to be read and understood by a consumer under normal conditions of purchase, in a font size that is not smaller than the font size describing the farm-raised fish or wild fish on the package, display, holding unit, or bin; ``(B) the designation of country of origin and the designation of wild fish or farm-raised fish shall be combined, and not made separately; and ``(C) the labeling shall be located on the front of the package if the fish is in a consumer package.''. (b) Effective Date.--This section and the amendments made by this section shall take effect on the date that is 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act. <all>
