Mrs. Wagner (for herself and Mr. Rutherford) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

A BILL

To expand funding opportunities for local law enforcement, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ``Local Law Enforcement Support Act of 2026''.

SEC. 2. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR BYRNE JAG PROGRAM AND COPS.

Section 100054(5) of Public Law 119-21 (139 Stat. 390) is amended-- (1) in subparagraph (A)-- (A) in clause (ii), by striking ``and''; (B) in clause (iii), by striking the period and inserting a semicolon; and (C) by adding at the end the following: ``(iv) recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining law enforcement personnel; ``(v) acquiring protective equipment for law enforcement personnel; ``(vi) increasing capacity to combat digital crimes and enhancing capabilities to support cyber investigations including the acquisition of-- ``(I) digital forensics equipment; and ``(II) digital evidence analytical software; ``(vii) supporting the use of drone and counter-drone law enforcement operations; ``(viii) expanding the availability of forensic technologies and other investigative equipment including the acquisition of-- ``(I) ballistics analysis equipment compatible with the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network; ``(II) rapid DNA instruments (as defined by 34 U.S.C. 40702(c)(3)); ``(III) video analytics software; and ``(IV) open-source intelligence analytical software; and ``(ix) enhancing communication with and providing services to victims of violent crime.''. <all>
